PADA YO!
PADA is working to grow and develop its youth outreach program, called PADA YO! The PADA YO! program provides underserved children in the Philadelphia area with the opportunity to learn the sport of ultimate through clinics run by local ultimate players. PADA YO also focuses on teaching problem resolution skills and enhancing physical health through to the challenging physical nature of ultimate.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2004), the incidence of obesity in children has nearly quadrupled since the 1960s, possibly due to more sedentary child activities. Ultimate provides an alternate and active recreation activity, as opposed to watching television or playing video games.
The PADA YO! program also provides free evening and weekend recreational programming in a safe and supportive environment which encourages family
involvement. Parents are encouraged to come to watch or help. The program specifically targets those neighborhoods where PADA already has a presence (where we play pick-up or league games). By targeting those neighborhoods, PADA can give back to the communities in which we play while working to build better relationships with those communities.
