2010 PADA Board Candidate Statements

Statements by the Candidates for the 2010 PADA Board

Jeff Hsieh

I have been playing in PADA for 6 years and have enjoyed the ultimate and the friendships that were created. I started playing ultimate at Wissahickon High School and went on to play 4 years in college at the University of Maryland. Ultimate I learned isn't just a hobby, it's a lifestyle. PADA is a unique community because people both young and old, novice or veteran, and from different walks of life are able to play together and then hang out together over a BBQ afterward. PADA is a community that gives its members so much and joining the PADA Board is just the way I can give back. PADA over the years has become more and more competitive and I want to make sure that the spirit-of-the-game always remains and continue to keep PADA fun for everyone.

I have been playing ultimate for almost a decade in the Philadelphia Area at both the league, college, and club level.  Before I joined the board 2 years ago, I had little idea of what was needed to run an orgainization like PADA.   It took some time to understand all of the different aspects of our great organization from running over a dozen leagues in three states, to the youth ultimate scene in the area, to the club tournaments that we host.  I feel that I have accomplished a lot during my 2 years on the board and would like to continue to help PADA grow and become a better organization through my efforts.

I've played college, club, and league in a variety of cities and have seen few, if any, ultimate organizations that rival PADA in magnitude or scope. This means PADA is doing a lot of things right, but it doesn't mean things can't be improved, particularly in the areas of communication and coordination. As an obsessive lover of both discs and organization, the PADA board is the perfect way for me to help out a community I care about. In case you care about credentials and/or like lists, here's both:

1) 2 years on Philly Love
2) 4 years at/on RPI
3) 3 years budgeting/running clubs
4) Awesome at spreadsheets
5) 27 second disc
